Hey everyone. Here's something i need to discuss with all of you.
Some of the advice I always got is to always ask your potential employers for contact with foreign teachers currently working with the school. If they say no, or somehow find a way to avoid giving you their contact info, it usually means they are hiding something. Usually those are the schools to run away from.
I'm dealing with Hampson in Beijing. And they are processing my documents now. And so far they haven't been quick to provide foreign references when you ask for them.
Is there anyone in Beijing working for Hampson with any insight to share? |

I can't speak for Hampson in Beijing, but one of my Chinese students graduated and went to work in their Shenzhen branch and I heard nothing but shady stories from the inside. All the teachers were illegal, either not having degrees or non-native English speakers (are you French or Eastern European without a degree? Can you lie and say you are British? Good!), and none of them had Z-visas and residence permits. It was shady, shady, shady.
I don't know if all the branches are like that or if they are each independently run, but unless I got a really good recommendation from someone I knew who worked there, I would avoid the name just on what I heard. |

I signed a contract with Hampson and it was incredibly shady. They lied to me about the visa, pay and hours. I ended up never working there, but I had completely relied on them for all of my plans, and it really screwed me over for 6 months or so. Eventually I had to leave China because my visa never got renewed like they said they would. |

a friend of mine worked there - the withhold a portion of your salary to guard against you doing a runner - the fact they feel the need to do this tells me enough. Wouldn't touch them. Their pay rates ain't too hot to begin with... |
