Long time member but infrequent poster here on Dave's.

I have recently decided to apply for EFL Instructor roles in Saudi Arabia. I am a 37yr old male and have almost four years experience teaching Business English and ESP in SE Asia. I have also taught a variety of General English and exam preperation courses (mainly TOEFL and Cambridge main suite). All of my experience has been teaching adults.

I have a good BA (Hons) English Language and Literature degree and now 4 years post CELTA experience. I think Saudi will be a good next step for me due to the adult focused jobs and provide ample opportunity and money to study for my MA Applied Linguistics.

I have read almost all of the Saudi and middle east discussion boards but am still not able to ascertain what roles I should be considering applying for and which companies / universities would provide a good first position in Saudi for me.

Can anybody give me some advice as to which places I should be applying and where to find them? Are all contracting companies to be avoided or are there any good ones?

Many thanks in advance!

You're best to simply research the employer and teaching environment for each position you're interested in and qualified for. But don't count on your qualifications putting you in the running for any of the better direct-hire university positions.

look for positions contracted or direct hire (much better but much harder to land) to Aramco. Avoid SRACO. They are the worst contractor I know of. Al Hoty and Haka are recommended.
