Hi, I am in China and considering other places to live. I read some of the threads here and was wondering if someone would be kind enough to give me a brief overview on life in Istanbul. Key areas of interest: Climate, cost of living, apartments, salary needed to live okay.
If you want my take on China I am happy to give it. Oh and I got an offer with New York. I see they got mixed reviews. Anything new on them would also be appreciated. |

The cost of living in Istanbul will depend largely on your lifestyle choices.
If you are young, happy to share a flat, limit your eating out to street food, and limit yourself to two nights in Taksim a week, you could get by on $1,000 a month for the lot.
If, on the other hand, you are more mature in years, demand a modest apartment to yourself, prefer to frequent more salubrious coffee shops & bars, and enjoy an occasional fish meal on the Boshphorous, you'd be looking at $2,000+ per month.
As for the Climate, it can hit 40C in the summer and drop to -10C in the winter. It doesn't happen every year but it can happen. |
