American English is my first language and my picks are:

- German (though I'm probably bias to this language because my favorite actresses are German Razz)
- Japanese (I watch too much Anime)
- Russian ( IMHO, Russian is the sexiest sounding language of all, followed by French)
- French (One of the most sexiest language of the world)

Topic hijack alert Wink

My candidate for UGLIEST spoken language:

Lëtzebuergesch

Horrid combination of (apparently the worst bits of) German and French, requiring high volume of spit to pronounce properly. beware particularly in train stations and on crowded sidewalks and pavements.

French was a lot more romantic before I knew how to speak it.

Or, turning the tables, the accent that is the most anathema to you?

Or maybe not. What might be grating to my ears might be music to someone else's!

All languages have the potential to sound beautiful or incredibly ugly.

Arabic is a language that many people seem to find uneasy on the ear, but if they heard my Jordanian friend speak, I think they would re-consider, because his voice is smooth, gentle, relaxing and hypnotic. And similarly, while Italian is almost universally considered a "beautiful language", a woman I know has a very husky, rough voice - and of course it doesn't help matters that she's not a particularly pleasant person to get along with (always arguing, it would seem). When she speaks, her Neapolitan Italian sounds rather foul, I'm afraid.

I think it really depends, chiefly on the speaker - and dare I say it, perhaps the speaker's social class.

Seconded.

The foreign languages (for me) with which I am most familiar, German and Mandarin, are generally considered rough on the ears but those languages can be spoken quite beautifully. Music to the ears.

Ditto your point about Italian. French, in my opinion, gets too much credit, because that language can certainly be spoken quite roughly. Nails on a chalkboard.

Warm regards,

I don,t mean to be following you around lol. But joual is a dialect! Anyhow don't go to Bretagne, it sounds similar.

Still I agree. The Montréalais look very sexy, until they speak. (Gross generalisation! I'm already regretting writing it.)

As for me, I love speaking and hearing Carioca Portuguese. Except when it gets whiny. Mad

Beautiful? The best looking language is Chinese. Not so easy on the ear though - all those tones clanging together.

Hit me with the Romance languages...

The further south you go in Italy, the more beautiful the accent, in my opinion.

But this is one of the most beautiful sounding languages ever:

Warning: it might bring tears to your eyes.

Since no human knows all languages, I would suggest that the answer to this question is known only to the Lord.
