Hi, I am in China and considering other places to live. I read some of the threads here and was wondering if someone would be kind enough to give me a brief overview on life in Istanbul. Key areas of interest: Climate, cost of living, apartments, salary needed to live okay.

If you want my take on China I am happy to give it. Oh and I got an offer with New York. I see they got mixed reviews. Anything new on them would also be appreciated.

The cost of living in Istanbul will depend largely on your lifestyle choices.

If you are young, happy to share a flat, limit your eating out to street food, and limit yourself to two nights in Taksim a week, you could get by on $1,000 a month for the lot.

If, on the other hand, you are more mature in years, demand a modest apartment to yourself, prefer to frequent more salubrious coffee shops & bars, and enjoy an occasional fish meal on the Boshphorous, you'd be looking at $2,000+ per month.

As for the Climate, it can hit 40C in the summer and drop to -10C in the winter. It doesn't happen every year but it can happen.
