Hi everyone, I just received a wonderfully generous offer from a Ukrainian family in Newcastle. (Gulp.) This amazing offer includes paid accommodation, and reads like this:
Quote: |
Hello Teacher,
I got to know that you are an ESL teacher on an ESL teaching job site and i decided to contact you to know if you will be able to come to Newcastle England to tutor my family. We are Ukrainian living in England.I will need a teacher who will come to Newcastle and tutor my family for a period of 1 and half years.I will give you accommodation and also will pay you monthly of £3,000 which is £1,000/child monthly.Though i have seen your brief CV but i will like you to send me your updated CV,picture and also your availability date. |
I sent a rather guarded response:
Quote: |
Dear Mr. Lukasz,
If you wouldn't mind providing your phone number in Newcastle, I'd like to give you a call tomorrow evening around 7:30 to discuss your children and their particular needs.
Also, would you mind telling me how you came across my information?
Sincerely,
My Name |
...and he responded:

Hello Teacher,
I just receive your message now.
Like i told you,I got to know that you are an ESL teacher on an ESL teaching job site and i decided to contact you. Am please to inform you that i will like to issue the job to you as i will like to see your updated CV,picture and your availability date.
As soon as i receive the above mentioned,i will attached a contract agreement letter for you to print, read through and sign and also my mobile number for us to discuss as you rightly stated.
regards,
Mr. Lukasz N. |
Now, he won't provide any information that could identify him, and he already has my latest CV as I only posted it a few days ago (my pic is up there too). Sorry if I'm wasting everyone's time, but it seems that the world has turned into scam-central over the years.
Also, he's immediately offered the post to me without any direct conversation.
What do you guys think? |

It's too good to be true. I wonder if this one's about identity theft being that he wants a full CV and photograph.
I have a feeling that he resides in Newcastle-upon-Niger, not Newcastle-upon-Tyne. |

Thanks Grahamb.
Do you mean a Nigerian scam like this one?

Hi dear, It's me Miss Niki Mutemba, I stumbled upon your profile online and I would very much like us to be friends.
Cheers
Ms. Niki. |
Seriously, thanks for the heads up. I had a very strong feeling not to send my CV and my photo to that guy.
Just a warning to everyone. Since I posted my CV and photo to the web site www.eslteachersboard.com I've started receiving lots of junk email on an otherwise very clean email account.
It occurred to me that many of the jobs posted for ESL do not use domain names in their email. Many of the "recruiters" out there use gmail, hotmail, yahoo mail, and others. I never respond to those ads, because it could be anyone and there's no way to confirm their identity. |

Any time I receive unsolicited emails that seem dubious, I copy and paste them into the Google search bar. If they're already on webs sites dedicated to exposing scams, they appear in the search results. |

Yeah. If you never sent out a CV or query and they are contacting you, that's already too suspicious. |

Lukasz is Polish spelling. Anglophone spelling should be Lukash. Do people in Ukraine even have the name Lukash/Łukasz? Although some from western Ukraine do render their names in Roman script according to Polish orthography, it smells like a sturgeon that left the comfort of the Dniepr several days ago and's been sitting in the sun.
When I get emails which are obviously scams, I like to write back with obscenities;) |

This format is fairly common and a production of the 419Scam Factory in Ibadan, Nigeria. |
