I have been looking into teaching with Berlitz in Mexico and am wondering if anyone has taught at their schools, where, and what they thought about the experience. Are they fair to employees? What are the benefits of working with them and the things that are not so great. Also, does anyone know of any jobs in Central Mexico that have more regular hours ( not extreme split shifts ) or perhaps Saturday and Sunday off. I speak Spanish fluently, have a bachelor's (in Spanish) and have taught English in a Mexican University before. |

I cant' tell you anything about Berlitz in Mexico, but I enjoy working for them here in St Louis, MO. I only wish they needed me full time. The people running the school here are extremely nice and professional, the course materials are well designed and the students have a very good attitude. I do know that Berlitz has locations in almost all large Mexican cities. I am thinking about giving it a try in Mxico myself. Good luck. |

This was about four years ago, but I guy I knew who had worked for Berlitz in the US asked at a couple of Mexico City branches, the hourly pay rate was well below other chains like English First or Wall Street, and only about half of what the private "Business English" schools were paying.
The conditions were just the same as the other schools, i.e. you teach if we have a class for you, and we only pay you for the hours you teach. |

There's a Berlitz in the city where I live. It's located in one of the big shopping malls. One of my coworkers used to teach there, and he liked it: nice administrators, pleasant students, excellent facilities, etc. According to him, the problem was that he couldn't get enough working hours (always very part-time.) Local wages at Berlitz are competitive with other language schools in this city. |

Scott,
What do you think of the Berlitz method? How does it work and is the training sufficient? |
