Hello all,

I have just completed a CELTA course at International House Riviera Maya in Mexico. I have a B.A. in an unrelated subject (political science). My original plan was to look for work in Mexico City, but given what everyone's been saying about the difficulties in obtaining a visa, I'd rather go somewhere where I didn't have to return to my home country to pick up my visa after finding a job and applying for it.

My plan now is to go to Colombia in early January to look for work there. I have no experience (other than 7 months as a teaching assistant with the TAPIF program in France). From what I've read, it seems that Bogota definitely has the most opportunities, but I would prefer somewhere a bit warmer. Smile I'm going to try Barranquilla since there is a lot of business English there and fewer expats. I have a basic level of Spanish, but I want to force myself to really depend on it in order to become more proficient.

Any advice on places to start looking? I know about language institutes (e.g. Berlitz) and they seem like the easiest place to get started, but I'm hoping to get something a little better paying. If I find that I enjoy the experience, which I hope to, I would like this to be the starting point of a career. Thus, I would like to work somewhere that allows me to develop as a teacher and where I feel like the students are actually engaged and benefiting from the lessons.

Thanks!
