|
|
Hello,
I had a quick look through the forums and found a few questions about people in similar situations, but not exactly matching what I want to ask.
My situation - I'm currently a 3rd year JET living in the inaka (don't we all!) and won't be renewing my contract on JET at the end of this JET year. The JET year runs from August to July, which goes against the Japanese school year of April to March.
I want to continue working on JET up until the end of my contract (July 2014) and not break my contract, however, I'm concerned about the number of jobs that will be available in the summer, as opposed to finding work for the start of the school year.
I want to continue working in a position similar to what I do now with JET, perhaps more focused on elementary, rather than JHS, teaching. I'd also like to live in or near a major city (Osaka or Tokyo).
My question is - do you know how easy it is to find work starting from late July / August, as opposed to the spring.
Also, my visa will be coming to an end. Does anyone have any experience in finding companies willing to renew this - or is this likely to be a big problem for me?
Thanks |

Your status as an experienced JET should put you at the front of the queue. Just mail your CV to all the recruiters in good time, and see who bites. If you're lucky, a BoE will need somebody to fill an unexpected gap. Otherwise, I'm sure one of the big chains will have you as part of their year-round rolling recruitment program.
Any school that hires foreign English teachers should be willing to provide the documentation you need to amend / renew your visa. |

Also, periodically be in touch with your PA to see if s/he has any leads on any job possibilities as well.
Warm regards,

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. Good to hear that there are companies that hire year round. Hope they'll have something for me
Gives me a bit of reassurance about waiting until the summer for a new job. |

Btw, Fat Chris, you were in Shizuoka, right? Do you know an ALT that was there called Bobby Brockway? |
