My potential employer is telling me that I won't have my documents ready by the end of February. I haven't gotten my CBC yet, but the RCMP website says it takes 72 hours or less if you get digital fingerprints done but 22 weeks for ink and roll. The only reason why I haven't done this yet is because I live in the USA, and you can't send digital fingerprints from outside Canada. I really don't want to deal with 22 weeks.
Has anyone gotten digital fingerprints processed for their CBC by the RCMP? How about going through your municipal police department?
The Montreal Korean consulate website says the following:

My school told me it usually takes 5 months for all the paperwork to be done. I'm not really buying it, though. When I told them that the processing time on the website says 72 days, they swear that they've never heard of it being less than 12 weeks.
Additionally, the Korean consulate website says:

But after contacting Commissionaires to see if they can convert ink and roll to digital, they said that they don't do the check themselves (like IDCanada or other places like that) but actually submit it to RCMP so that I will have an RCMP stamp. Has anyone done anything like this? IDCanada also told me that they do CBC for E-2 visas all the time, but the website says that it isn't valid... |

| It takes 4 to 6 months to get a CBC if you don't live in Canada and apply through an embassy or consulate. Go to the RCMP website. |

Really?
Does it really take that long to get a criminal record check in Canada even if you go through an accredited agency that scans the fingerprints to an electronic format?
I've read online that using normal fingerprint forms and sending them in results in about a 5 month wait for a criminal record check.
Also, Canadian embassies do not conduct or assist in criminal record checks. |

Mine came in in 6 weeks. What happens is the electronic part means that they scan your fingers, then send your scan to the govt, where it sits in a pile till the batch is full. So it could be done in a week, but it never happens that fast. They don't answer emails or phone calls unless you have passed the 6 month waiting period.
It's misleading and the website should say so, but why would we expect govcan to do anything logically or efficiently? |

It obviously varies. There is no fixed time on anything that government offices do. When I was in Canada the last time in 2012 and had to get a new check done it. It ended up taking 10 days from the moment my fingerprints were done, scanned and sent off to the RCMP until the actual document reached the house by mail.
You also have to realize that after that you are still not finished the process required for it to be accepted by Korean immigration. |
