Hi
I'm new to the forum and wondered if any of you could give me advice or info. I'm a UK EFL teacher with cert and dip TESOL and PGCE (primary teaching qual). I also teach Arabic. I've been teaching for eleven years (five years in primary and six in EFL, eleven in Arabic - mostly part-time of course).
Hubby is a secondary teacher and we are hoping to emigrate to NZ this autumn (probably Auckland but could be Wellington or Christchurch).
If I stayed in the UK, I would be joining the teacher training team in our further education college, doing the Phonology part of our cert TESOL.
I've read quite a few of the posts on this board and gather that the EFL situation is quite hard in NZ at the moment. Is that just in private language schools or across the board in colleges and unis too? Ideally I'd like to be able to do some teacher training as well as EFL teaching. With my quals and experience, do I have a chance or will it be impossible being a non-kiwi at the mo. Also I'd love to teach a bit of Arabic if I could, is there anywhere in NZ where they might want an Arabic teacher (I don't do religious stuff though and I wouldn't be able to or want to teach Quranic Arabic).
I'd very much appreciate your thoughts and comments |
