Hello all,

Recently received job offer from international school in Qatar.

2 year contract
11,000 QAR (~$3,000 USD) per month.
Housing, Utilities paid by school
Transportation to and from work provided.

Have a easy gig in U.S. Great students. Only thing is that I live in a high cost of living area. Impossible to save much. Goal is to pay my car off ($11,000) and stack a little money up before I return to states.

Will I be able to live comfortably in Qatar as a single person?

Thanks.

Yes. I spend 100 riyals per week on Internet, 200-350 riyals per week on weekly groceries, 75 riyals per week on take-away lunches, 50 riyals per week on taxis, and 150-200 per week on miscellaneous entertainment*. Worst case scenario: 800 riyals per week, leaving me with satisfactory savings. I actually pay for my own utilities, but they're so cheap they're virtually free.

*averaged out (sometimes a lot more, sometimes nothing)

Rule of thumb: for mundane day-to-day stuff except Internet, Qatar is dirt-cheap, but going out somewhere and 'doing something', whether it be going to the pub or on a trip somewhere, will set you back a few quid.
