Dear Colleagues
I have been offered an ESL teaching position in Al kharj.
Does anyone live and teach in Al kharj? I would like to know things such as what are the students and locals like? What is the city like? Are there a lot of restaurants and shopping malls? I have looked online for information about Al kharj but can't find much information.
I am a single female currently living and working in Riyadh and so am familiar with Saudi Arabia.

It's not that far from Riyadh. Why not take a day trip out and see for yourself. I am sure you could find a taxi that would take you there if you don't have a car. I suppose if you are female, then might be a bit more problematic going for a visit. |

Well, whichever company has offered you this job ask them to take you over to find out what the setting is like.
I wonder how long you've been in KSA that you do not know about Kharj-
nearly 2 hours away by car, very conservative - 2 malls and nothing else to do apart from work and sleep.
You will be coming back every w/e to Riyadh to keep your sanity. |

You could go from IKEA to Kharj in half an hour. |

Run down, farming community, small numbers of English speakers, more conservative than Riyadh.
Find out where and how you'll be living, how many other women you'll be sharing with and the regularity of their shopping trips to Riyadh and other assorted days out.
As a man I wouldn't personally want to be there as I know other male western tutors who couldn't wait to escape the radical boredom, having come to regret their first move to KSA being there. |
