My school must have a sufficient amount of wasta because my residence permit has already been placed in my passport and my civil id is on its way after only five weeks in country. Usually the process takes much, much longer. Aside from immigration not accepting the photos I brought from the states (for the asinine reason that they were glossy and not matte), everything has gone okay (I just had some photos cheaply taken here). Other than that, I've experienced no other hiccups with the bureaucracy. But we all know that dysfunction lurks around the corner.... Razz

Or they greased the right palms. I was working for KU... arrived in late August... and finally got my passport back with visa and my first pay and housing allowance in January. That said, I was able to buy a new Toyota with my ATM card... and still send cash back to the US to reimburse the savings that I had been living on...

Yes, it was in the late 90s, but things like this never seem to improve in this part of the world.

Nope; my timeframe was rather the same, and I was working for a real dump of a "college" back then.

Can you not get old charges like that expunged from your record? Look into getting a pardon. The cost might be worth the peace of mind.
