Hi

I am a newbie to applying to the Middle East.

I am a female with a Korean husband and 2 kids.

I have heard that I could not apply to any schools in Saudi because the country never sponsors womens' families.

But Interlink is saying no problem.

Could some one please tell me what the heck is going on?

You may want to look at "Beware of Interlink!" (http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=98988) to help you form your own judgment about whether Interlink is on the up-n-up with you.

In terms of women sponsoring their families, in general, it's possible in some situations but not common. Many companies and some direct-hire employers bring female teachers over on a single-status (unmarried/no dependents) visa. Instead of a housing allowance, accommodation for women is usually provided as well, but as noted, it's for singles and not for women with dependents.

I suggest avoiding the various dodgy contracting companies named throughout this forum and focusing on direct-hire university opportunities, if your qualifications fit. University employers are generally more consistent and the salary and job benefits tend to be richer. See "The skinny on direct-hire university opportunities" (http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=103722). For example, KAU's English Language Institute might be an option for you; I've met a few expat female ELI teachers who have their families with them. There's also Prince Sultan University. Both universities are currently hiring. That said, women really don't have the same job opportunities and thus, level of benefits their male counterparts get.

By the way, if you're a complete newbie to TEFL, Asia is a much better place to start for your first teaching job.

A question I ask myself daily. Cool

Does anyone know if Interlink still manages (and hires for) the foundations program at PSU?

I know that our OP has the right credentials for universities in the Gulf and recommended (through our PMs) that she start checking out their websites for direct hire.
