In fairness, I haven't done to badly with language schools. I've always been paid on time, treated fairly well, had good resources and haven't been overworked (since 2005) However, there are other things related to the actual job - cancelled classes, scatty timetable, split shifts, all low level students (some is ok but all??), feeling like you are not a teacher but a marketing tool. Most of you know what I'm talking about. i really like teaching and want to actually teach challenging classes, but i haven't really found a satisfying job in a school abroad. I'm working in a language school in my home country at the moment an it's probably the best school I've worked in terms of standards, students and professionalism. it's challenging too as they students are paying alot to be here and expect high quality! However, it's not long term option as there just isn't enough work. Some weeks are quiet and it's paid hourly. If I could find a school like it, abroad, salaried, it would be great!

Have any of you ever worked for a 'good' language school? Or a least one where the teaching was satisfying? Should I give up and go another route (uni, international school)? Advice or recommendation would be great!

Most universities and international schools require advanced qualifications, beyond a CELTA/other entry-level cert. What are your qualifications?
Your passport also matters; there are some very good language schools in Europe, for example, with more high-level classes and more reliable schedules than what you describe, but unless you have a passport from an EU member country, you're mostly not eligible.
What part of the world are you imagining you might like to go to?

Yes - that is the problem. I only have a CELTA. I'm working on the DELTA p/t but I don't think I will complete it for another year or even two.

I do have the advantage of an EU passport and I'm not particular about location. I just want to find a good school that values career development.

BTL Formation in Paris is a good school, mainly working off-site in banks and insurance companies so a lot of independence. They pay on time and there's a nice buzz in the teacher's room. I did a two year contract with them and would definitely consider going back but the pay can't match the ME which is where I am now.
