Hey all,
I've been looking into a job post that I found here, http://www.eslcafe.com/joblist/index.cgi?read=8239. I've been doing a lot of research in either teaching in China or Taiwan, but because of a lot of these posts and a lot of postings in the job journal as well as emailing a few people off those journals, I'm getting a bit turned off by jobs in Taiwan.
It seems as though the consensus is that I should not sign a contract before getting there. This worries me a bit because it would suck if I packed up and came over and couldn't find a job. I always like to be safe than sorry. Has anyone signed a good Taiwan contract? I've been reading a lot about the bait and switch method. That's kinda scary.
The other consensus is that it seems as though the whole visa deal is a mess in Taiwan. It seems like you have to crawl through a bunch of hoops in order to get your ARC or visa. How difficult is this? It also seems as though China handles all this for you. Am I incorrect in this assumption?
I've been told that if I have experience, that I shouldn't have a problem finding a job in Taiwan. I have a 4 year degree from a well-known university and have worked at many large multinational corporations, trained employees, etc... The only thing is that I do not have classroom teaching experience. I've done volunteer positions at inner city schools etc, but never had to do lesson plans etc, that's why I'm so attracted to the postion above (co-teaching).
So anyone know anything about the American Eagle School in Hsin Chu? http://www.aeskg.hc.edu.tw/default1.htm
What's considered a good contract?
How do I ensure that I don't get ripped off if I honestly do feel safer signing a contract before I get there?
HELP!!! Thanks! |
