I've talked to two gyms in my area and was told I can not join because I don't speak Japanese. I have been here all of one month. I am trying to learn the language, but how proficient do I need until I get the green light to lift weights. Has anyone else ever had this problem?
My next attempt will be at Gold's gym near Keiseitsudanuma station. I live near Katsutadai station so if anyone knows a gym that will let a newbie to the country join I would much appreciate any information. |

I live in the area, actually. Let me see what I can look into. I don't lift here, but did in Chiba city. Do you know why they didn't let you join? Maybe you can't read/understand the rules, or something that? WHo knows, it could be a reason, or not. |

Thanks rxk,
It is true that I can't read the contract, but I've been a member of gyms in Korea and Thailand and never had a problem in those countries. Any info would be welcome. |

Bring a Japanese person along with you and you should be able to join. |

It's probably because they have to give safety instructions. Japan is extremely punctilious about that kind of thing. And, sadly, the instructor will be anxious about communicating with foreigners after the traumas of English language instruction in Japan. Try bringing somebody to interpret for you. |

Not all gyms in Japan require their users to be proefficient in the language since already three or four of my friends just like you go and lift in different cities in there. I'm not 100% sure but I think one of them goes to Gold's.
If you want, I could ask for you in bb.com for a gym in your city. You aware? |
