|

Hi, I'm new here, so if this is an annoying topic let me know and I'll shut up quick
That being said, I am looking for employment in a preferably coastal city... and I am wondering if anyone has any good advice on where to go, who to contact, what schools to look at, etc.
The boards seem to speak very favorably of Dalian (as do the pictures I've found of it), but the only offer I can find in that city wants me to work 7 days a week for 4000 rmb per month (not a very good deal in my mind).
For a little background on me (so you know what sorts of jobs I may be qualified for), I have worked in an education department of a museum (in charge of a program for schoolchildren, essentially a classroom setting), tutored extensively (mostly with kids with learning disabilities... not that the chinese necessarily care about that), and have an emergency teaching credential from California (lets you substitute teach)...
Anyway, if anyone has any advice before I leap in over my head, i'd greatly appreciate it. |

I worked in Dalian at the Searich Sino-British College. It was ok. It is four and a half days a week for 7k a month. It was an alright setup.
Dalian has a lot of private schools, but I haven't really heard about any good ones. There is also the Railroad institute adverts up everywhere on the web. It looked ok.
One word though, most Chinese cities are really pedestrian. You really get a feel for street life. Dalian is not that. Dalians night life was a little lacking too.
Good place to raise a family, but for coastal cities Xiamen, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Qingdao, and Guangzhou are much more hopping |

for what it is worth, i'm kind of in a unique position.
i'm not in this for the money, nor am i in it, necessarily, for what one might think of as a social scene.
i kind of want... well... i want out of the united states, fast.
i'm tired of it.
so i think i'm going to take the liaoyang offer. it's 5k a month, which i know isn't good (especially considering i'm semi-credentialed in the us with teaching experience), but they gave me the offer to leave june 1 and i want to get gone. |

good luck to you. I hope you find what you are looking for. For what its worth, I think the wage is not too bad and Liaoning is an ok place. |

|
|
Hi,
I live in Qingdao which is a really nice seaside city in China. I have been to a few more places on the coast here.
For example Dalian- Its ultra modern and veeeery cold in the winter!
Yantai- quaint little factory town on the bihai sea (low salaries)
Wei hai- pretty tourist town not too big very very few foreigners
And Qingdao which I like best so far as its a nice blend of cultures, new and old china, and has lots of English teaching positions...
Good luck!
