One year ago today.

From the Wikkypeddia:

Quote:
Margaret Hilda Thatcher, Baroness Thatcher, LG OM PC FRS (née Roberts, 13 October 1925 – 8 April 2013), was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990 and the Leader of the Conservative Party from 1975 to 1990. She was the longest-serving British Prime Minister of the 20th century and is the only woman to have held the office. A Soviet journalist dubbed her the "Iron Lady", a nickname that became associated with her uncompromising politics and leadership style. As Prime Minister, she implemented policies that have come to be known as Thatcherism.

I knew that she was called the "Iron Lady" but I didn't realize that it was a Soviet journalist who gave her that moniker.

Warm regards,
fat_chris

Dear fat_chris,

Well, makes sense - who would know Iron better than someone living behind the Iron Curtain? Very Happy

Dear Johnslat

There are a few people from 'Norn Iron' who knew iron just as well. Much closer to home...

Dear Sasha,

Ach - you sent me to google:

"How till spake Norn Iron (A guide to local phrases)

As the old saying goes, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" and it's pretty much the same here in Belfast.

There's no better way to get to know the city and its people than to mingle with the locals and engage in a bit of light-hearted 'banter'.

Our A-Z online guide to speaking the local lingo has attracted the most comments by far. So if you want to know the difference between a minger and a munter or why tea is different from tae, or add your suggestions, just consult 'How till spake Norn Iron' and you'll be talking the talk before you know it...big lad!"

Dear Johnslat

It was the nostalgia value for me that made me do it. Decades ago, covert missions to provide Soviet technical support and advisors, not to mention materiál. Great whiskey, explosive nightlife. Ahhhhh. Takes me back...

Funny, I always thought Sasha was more of a steel man than an iron one. After all, Uncle Joe was the man of steel! Wink

Dear Esteemed Comrade Sasha,

No more posts commemorating Class Enemy #1 shall be constructed. I am penning my self-criticism at this very moment.

Warm regards,

Dear Highly Esteemed Comrade Sasha,

I welcome the process of rehabilitation in order for me to become a much better comrade to all. I only want to serve the people appropriately and remove any remaining traces of the filthy piggie propaganda from my psyche. My zeal and love for the Great(er) East Eurasian TESOL Society is great! The fire in my bosom burns strongly and proudly! Or is that just the spicy Sichuanese fare I had for lunch?

Yours in Comradeship.

Warm regards,
Comrade fat_chris

Without Mrs T there wouldn't have been a Scottish Parliament; her arrogance was a major factor in waking up the nation. A wonderful woman! Very Happy
