Hello, I have been interviewing to work for the Education Bureau Of Shenzhen Bao'an District. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience working here? I'd be earning around 9500 CNY a month with a free apartment, and they said the insurance only covers emergencies. Any information you could give would be appreicated!
Second question, are people in Shenzhen generally supportive of foreigners trying to learn Mandarin? I have had good success practicing Korean in Seoul and Spanish in Colombia. Just wondering if the majority of people speak Cantonese, I believe its mandatory to learn Mandarin as well in school so I'm keeping my hopes up.

Hey,
I was offered a position for the same kinda gig, PS in Shenzhen in August but unfortunately prob wont take it. I was doing some research though.
To answer your second question, you can see from wiki and some demographic charts (and common sense) that they speak Mandarin there. Obviously, you could find someone who speaks Cantonese due to the HK business people coming in and out but like you said, it's taught in schools. |

Shenzhen is a manufactured mega-city. The majority of the people there are not from the area, and Mandarin is the default language, unless you hook up with a clique of locals. Their Cantonese will not be the same as HK Cantonese or Guangzhou Cantonese. |
