|

Hi all,
I have been lurking the site, and others, to research various summer and winter camp opportunities for teachers. I am just curious to see if any of you have had an enjoyable experience with any particular camp.
I am considering most any location, but especially Spain, China, and South Korea. I do not have a TEFL certification of any kind. However, I have taught secondary history for 1.5 years, and have a bachelor's degree, as well as, a graduate certificate in education.
So if anyone has had a great experience, or a terrible one, while teaching at a camp I would love to hear about it. Thanks! |

2 comments about "camp jobs" in Asia:
1) IF you are local for the camp then it is often an enjoyable experience and can add some extra pocket money to your pocket. Pay for camps will generally, depending on the country, run from US$1000-2000.
2) If you are abroad it usually makes no sense to try to get a "camp position" in Asia.
- - It is virtually impossible to get a proper visa,
- - After your travel expenses there is nothing left for your efforts (usually you lose money).
- - The "summer breaks" in Asia are NOT in sync with the US academic calendar (Korea's big school break is from late Dec to Feb with the new school year starting in March).
Additionally, travel and tourism is usually not an option due to "work commitments". What it won't be is a "working vacation".
Not from my first hand experience but as an American you will also be visa issues with working in Spain (even just for a "camp").

Thank you for the info.
I did not realize that about the visas. As for the rest of your post, I was aware of those things, but thought that working in a camp might be a good way to meet people, and to pay for part of a larger trip. |
