Who are the "they" of which you speak? Booz Allen Hamilton has always, in my memory, supplied Englsih teachers for the saudi royal rubber duckys. They supply to both Jeddah and Jubail operations. Again, always have.

The benes are great!

Good job. Good conditions. Alas when I tried they still had a policy of "No Confederates or Limeys"

They were more than interested in hiring me for Jubail and I'm from the nation of island warriors.

They changed the policy several years ago and they employ Brits and I have met one of the Brits who work for BAH. The job is really tough. Teaching the ALC (DLI) to bitter, angry, tired kids with hugh wasta. The benefits have been coming down over the years. Nice compound but the manager in Jubail and the one in Riyadh are grim and will shaft you to curry favour. Still it is better than working for Bell.

.......better than most teaching jobs in the Kingdom of Humanity. Cannot imagine that the trainees have much wasta. If they had wasta would they be in the Navy ? I am reminded of a quote from Winston Spencer Churchill about the fine traditions of the Royal Navy. Just remember that in the Saudi Navy there is no rum.

How wrong you are. It is the naval academy and all the trainees will become officers in the Navy or Marines. Almost every cadet has hugh wasta but there are a few on merit. Most are from Qassim or Rıyadh. I taught there for a while when they were short of teachers and during an attempt at a communicative activity about what their fathers do - it was judge, Admiral, General, advisor to Royal family, owner of AL Jazeerah Motors etc. One kid told me that his dad put him in the Navy even though he was a general in the Air Force because you can fail the Air Force Academy but cannot fail the Navy. True the Air Force is much better but you have to have big wasta to get into the military and police academies. Those without go in as ratings and never go further than warrant officer. One kid who I was told to give a disciplinary report to after repeated use of the f word waltzed into class the following day and told me with limited English and hand gestures that it had been torn up after his father who is in the intelligence services got involved. I checked it out with an admin officer and it was true.

Ah! Well this is KSA. I have heard that Saudi Navy HQ is in Riyadh. I can imagine what that institution is like.

All the military HQs are in Riyadh but the Naval Academy is in Jubail just like the Air Force Academy is in Dhahran.

For those who wish to teach the Jack Tars of course there is TINS in Khobar/Dammam. By all accounts a truly awful place.

I know a bit about TINS and the students are not too bad as they are all NCOS or ratings which means they tend to have little wasta and are from poorer parts of saudi like Khamis or Abha. The downside of TINS of course is the low salary and the average age of the teachers must be like 70.
