Looking to make a trip to Tokyo and could use a break down of the nightlife.
Which clubs and bars are the best for girls looking to meet foreigners?
Also, best clubs that play top40, hiphop, and r&b?
I am not really into the techno/house clubs and the snooby highend scene.

Sounds like the six trees (六本木) is the place for you. I haven't been to Tokyo in a while, so I can't recommend specific places though. This website might give you some ideas.

I'd stay away from Roppongi if I were you. Too many Nigerian scammers and shady bars.

On top of many stories from people who have visited it.
Japan has a night scene, but the club scene does not match the size of Japan's night scene. |

How do these Nigerians even manage to live and 'work' here in such a strict and bureaucratic country with regard to immigration and visas?
For that matter they seem to be everywhere (Beijing, for example).
Not racist, just sayin'. |

It isn't racist. Even in Africa, Nigerians are stereotyped as criminals. My speaking partner spent a year in Kenya. Guess what? In Kenya, the Nigerians are the big time criminals ie drugs and mafia types.
I guess they know who to bribe, and how to just break the law just enough to make money, but not get caught. The Nigerians being big in China surprises me, then again, they do have a massive corruption problem.
Anyhow TS, be careful of Roppongi, girls and Nigerians will try to take you to a bar/club where you can either be drugged, or charger $100 for a plastic bottle of wine. |

A bit more about this scam. http://japan.usembassy.gov/e/acs/tacs-warden20090317-01.html
A few ways to avoid this... don't bring your credit cards, better to lose a few hundred dollars than a few thousand. Stick to the more well-known establishments rather than ones being advertised on the street. I'd say be wary of girls that you meet in one bar who try to take you to another one, but maybe that's easier said than done. |

Do you mean that Nigerians are complicit in the shady bar/drink-spiking incidents, or are these two separate issues? I ask because the Embassy link you provided does not make it clear who is responsible for the drink-spiking. Do you happen to know? Are the bartenders themselves suspected to be in on it?

Roppongi Security Notice
Date: March 17, 2009
This is to inform the American community that the U.S. Embassy has recommended that the embassy community avoid frequenting Roppongi bars and clubs in Tokyo due to a significant increase in reported drink-spiking incidents. American citizens may choose to avoid frequenting drinking establishments in this area as well. |
Also, and sorry if this seems a little geeky about word usage, but why only warn those who "frequent" bars? What about those who only intend to "once" a bar? Seems like they would be at greater danger, as they are less savvy about the environment.
Frequent
verb (used with object)
4.
to visit often; go often to; be often in:
"to frequent the art galleries." |

Of course the bartender is in on it, you wake up in the back room of the bar. As far as whether the scammers are Nigerian or not, who knows? There are some Japanese people involved in this, after all this scam involves Japanese women not Nigerian women.
This happened to a friend of mine, was drinking in Roppongi one night, wakes up in the back room of the bar with guys telling him he owes thousands of dollars in drinks and they need his signature. He repeatedly refuses and several guys take him out of the bar to go God knows where. He was saved when a couple police officers rounded the corner on foot and the crooks split up like nothing happened. My friend took off running down the street.
By all means, go out and have a good time, just don't bring your credit cards or excessive amounts of cash. |
