Fascinating; so much literature and yet little is read there.

I've always wondered about places with stockpiles of material and scores of nerds.

To appreciate the quality, one has to receive an appropriate guidance.

Comrade Sasha,

When I saw the title, I thought you were referring to that town in ole Blighty, but that would be a thread for the UK forum.

Berkshire!

Some say Redding, some say Reeeeeding. Some say tomay-to, some say tomah-to. Some say CELTA, some say…

Warm regards,

Appropriate guidance, indeed.

“To paraphrase Tolstoy: writers need a bit of hardship. You don’t want to be sentenced to death in order to be creative. But there is a huge internal protest at Putin’s power.”

“I would enjoy talking to Putin about literature after all the political prisoners are released. Until then, it is not possible.”

"Pavel Basinsky, Russia’s biggest 21st-century non-fiction star, told me at last month’s Pen Literary Salon at London Book Fair that authors face a unique challenge in Putin’s Russia, where their work – notwithstanding events such as the Literary Congress – is simultaneously completely free and completely ignored: “Literature doesn’t trouble the authorities. They don’t consider that it has power, so they don’t read it.”

Regards,
John

Dear John,

The Tolstoy-Putin dimension is enlightening to say the least.

Dissatisfaction with the Russian president may compare to the one with the American chief commander; so, I would read more on our own, if I were you.

Reading is on the table.

Respectfully yours,
Joe

Dear Joe

Respected Comrade Johnslat is in fact extreeeemly well-read. Our agents observed several bookcases lining his study when they were engaged in covert operations to extend our files on him. They observed many Russian classics, all well-thumbed, as well as the greats of British, Irish, American, Spanish, French, German, and even Indian writers. Sadly, his shelves lacked a proper representation of approved Socialist-Realist writers, and next to nothing concerning the great Marx and Engels. But this is probably owing to their being banned by the Piggies in his homeland.

With Communist greetings

Sasha

Dear Johnslat

: )

As the devil has the best tunes, the Reds are by far and away the best read.

Very Happy

With Communist greetings

Dear John,

I bet you know the world is colorful. Your resistance to certain tones is obvious. Wear shades, if red triggers an eye sensation Cool

Coexistence depends on the ability to accept all the tints provided by mother Earth and its inhabitants. Idea

Respectfully yours,
Joe
