Hello,

I'm thinking about applying for a job at Asia University in Musashino, Tokyo and i'm wondering where i'd "have to" live if I were to get the job. I'm not sure what the salary is but from my other research, lets say its about 400,000Y/month. My concern is that in order to not spend the majority of my salary on rent, i'd need to live a great distance from my workplace, which i would not be in any way enthused about. Less than an hour commute would be manageable but more than an hour would not be nice. Any knowledge/opinions would be appreciated. thanks.

The pay is not that high.
You could live on the Chuo Line, west of the school, like in Higashi-Koganei.

I think he meant for uni work it's not that high. Full time limited time contract work?

As to where to live, Higashi Koganei is good, Higashi Kurame possible as well depending on where exactly the uni is.

I know people who work there and you aren`t going to make 400,000 as a new teacher.
It is full time contract work.

I live near Kichijoji.

If you're living alone, you should easily be able to find a place in Mitaka or Musashi Sakai for ¥80000 or less. There are plenty of places. Or, you could go further east to Koenji and still find something.

Granted, it won't be a palace, but perfectly serviceable.

I've seen a lot of listings near me in Nishi Ogikubo starting at around 60,000, and that's an awesome area and an easy bike ride to Asia.

There are also a few real estate agents in the area that deal with foreigners and have lots of places around Nakano---again, a great area, and affordable on that salary.

Good luck!
