Quote:
State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said the representative offices of the coalition would now be considered a "foreign mission" under U.S. law.

She said it was another move aimed at formalizing the relationship between Washington and the coalition, which until now has been represented by liaison offices in Washington and New York.

The change is largely symbolic and does not mean that the United States is now recognizing the opposition as Syria's government.

The news caught my eye for a few reasons; one of them is that some tough sanctions as against Russia as well as generous support for the Ukrainian opposition/the government current government there has been provided.

This truly is a political thread. I hope to see some fine FT politicians views on. Have your nations got such "laws" as the US does? Have any of the American FTs either voted for such laws or for the Syrian opposition aid? Please, don't doom this very essential for a coexistance on Earth topic, enlighten it Idea

So you sanction the US meddling in the INTERNAL affairs of other sovereign nations when it suits US goals?

Would it be fair to suggest that foreign governments should be allowed to support US, militant, right wings groups in opposition to the US government when it suits the foreign country's "interests" in "protecting" US citizens from the US government?

Why are the Syrian militants "freedom fighters" (in spite of their own government calling them terrorists) and US militants "home grown terrorists" and "criminals"?

Why, when the US government does it does it somehow becomes "right" but when someone else does something similar it becomes "terrorism"?

Should US forces acting unilaterally in foreign countries or international waters be considered a terrorist group?

Should, internationally, the US be considered a country and government who is a "state sponsor of terrorism?"

Is US interference akin to "prohibition" when they insist on instilling their brand of morality on the populations of other countries?

Hypocrisy at its finest.

Not that the US is the only culprit. You can certainly add Russia and China (and to a lessor extent the UK) to that list.
