I have changed from working in hotels to an English training agency. My new company asked me for 2 photocopied documents I've never seen or had in my possession before:
Alien Employment Permit (maroon passport-sized book)
Alien Employment License (looks the size of a car title)
Although I did check with my former employer in the HR dept, they told me that the permit and license were turned into the local government when I resigned last year. Is it possible they are referring to my city's PSB (Public Security Bureau) office? Have any of you had possession of either documents? I've heard that some employers keep the Alien Employment Permit book in their possession in some cases, but never heard of the License. Any and all feedback where to obtain such records would be great!!!
Cheers,

My reply may well be of little use and too late anyway, but here it is -
Alien Employment Permit (maroon passport-sized book): I've worked for a few places and two of them 'allowed' me to have this (I've only ever worked legally; Z visa and Residence Permit), other employers presumably held on to it.
Alien Employment License (looks the size of a car title): I'm pretty sure that this is what your employer has to provide so as to secure you your legal working documents (Z visa & subsequent RP), it's their legal document showing they are legally allowed to hire foreigners.
If my understanding is correct, your previous employer is correct in that once you finished working for them your AEP is no longer valid (as it is designated to that place of work) and has to be handed in.
My guess is your employer to-be doesn't know what it's doing and / or isn't legally allowed to hire foreigners.
Take the above with a huge pinch of salt. If, however, my post generates other, more useful, posts correcting my assumptions or backing them up, then good. I just thought you should have a reply or two. |

Not necessarily so and I have warned of this in other threads...sometimes they (legitimate employers) will request copies of Work books .. FEB or AWB or the book themselves.... |
