Hi all,
I need to buy a few things from overseas (will probably be from the U.S. and Canada), but don't have a credit card. Is it easy to get a money order/bankers draft from the post office? Does anyone know how much it costs? The amounts are around 50 Canadian dollars and 220 U.S.
Thanks,
L |

You won't have any trouble doing this. Some people (many?) use international money orders to send money home. It looks like "yuubin-kawase" is money order, and if you want an international one, maybe try "kokusai yuubin-kawase." Just a guess, someone will correct me, heh. I put a link to Japan Post's English site below. Hope this helps.
I forget how much they cost. It's not too much. Maybe 500 yen each?

Just get a credit card here! Citibank Visa wasn't too difficult for me to get.
Takes about a month..
They have lot's of options too!
Sending a money order is a huge hassle..... |

I have a Japanese visa card and one problem I've run into is that at times I wasn't able to buy things online from Cdn stores because they required NA credit cards with NA mailing addresses. I do think you should get a Japanese card neverthlesss because they can be handy at times. Mine took 4 months to get, but I think it was due more to incompetence on my employer's part during the application process. |

Speaking of buying things from overseas....
Apperently it is really hard to get certain items and sizes in Japan.
Does anyone have experience with ordering things off the internet and Ebay to Japan? Anything to stop me doing this when I get to Japan? Like, is it possible to get packages delivered to inner city apartments? or are there trademark 'japanese' compliations? |

I was reading th post on money orders and I will prolly have the same issue. I need to send student loan payment to US from Japan and was wondering if money order or Lloyds (???) or credit is best? Is the process for getting a creit card in Japan the same as in the US? (From my first years as a dumb college girl, I have not so good credit in the US)
Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! |
