Hello All,
I was wondering what kind of things are necessary when applying for a job and visa in Saudi. Do I need a background check? University transcripts? Finger prints run by the FBI?
I know some countries require people to jump through a lot of hoops before admitted to the country.
I'm trying to get a handle on what and then employer or company might ask me for so that I can begin gathering that information now.
Thanks in advance. |

It is a huge pain in the ass and it will test every fiber of your being.
Oh, and do a little research for god's sake before you ask the world's most general questions. "Hi. I was wondering. Does it get hot in KSA? What language does the locals speak? Am I going to have to wear shoes to work, or can I go barefoot?"
All of your simple questions can be answered if you go to the KSA Embassy website in Washington, D.C.

KSA is near the top when it comes to jumping through hoops for an employment visa. That would include a criminal background report; various documentation for degree authentication/attestation; and a medical report complete with lab test results, chest x-ray, and a med exam. However, wait until you've accepted a written job offer because these requirements have a limited shelf life---some also require receipt of documentation from the employer before anything can be processed. The exception is the documentation regarding your degree (e.g., transcripts, letter from the registrar, printout from Degree Verify, etc.), which you can gather in advance and hold onto pending receipt of an offer. |

From my experience (visited 69 countries, worked in 5) I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that Saudi has by far the largest number of hoops.
But it's not just that. It's the fact that some hoops keep moving, some are too small for you to fit through and some are invisible. Some may even be burning when you leap. Some are required for you but not the guy standing in front of you in the queue. Some depend on which day of the month it is. Some depend on which guy is behind the counter when you finally find the right counter to be at.
So, yeah, it's tough to get here. |
