I'm sure some do and some don't , but I was looking for a general consensus. I have a degree that doesn't specify any major, so I will generally say it is in Education. So I was wondering if most schools with try to verify degrees, teaching licenses, TEFL's? Thank you for the info. |

This has nothing to do with what I do in the classroom. Having an undergrad Education degree vs. another L.A. degree hardly makes a difference in quality.
Nor is it any different than anybody "tailoring" their resume to a certain job...a.k.a.: giving out a semi-false perception.
So if you have any real input to add, that would be great. |

I think the correct answer would be randomly - when they spot something suspicious. But my crap school, without my knowledge nor consent actually printed up a TEFL Certificate with my name on it to show parents. I never took a TEFL course in my life. When I leave I plane to email all the parents after I get paid. |

But lying about your qualifications is OK? You say 'semi-false perception', I call it lying. |

I think actually saying your major is in something it isn't, particularly saying it is in education when looking for teaching jobs, crosses a line. I agree that the line can be fuzzy sometimes, but I'm pretty sure this is over it.
In particular, if you have a degree in education won't most people expect that you also have a teaching certification? Do you get asked why you have a B.Ed but never got certified to teach? |

If it makes you feel any better, probably close to 75 percent of my undergrad was the same courses Education majors take. |

I have not been asked this before, although I'm only in year 2 of my China career at the moment. Maybe you're right about crossing the line, but if it saves the school from dealing with some of these other dipshit arrogant foreigners that I see, they will thank me for "lying" when I finish out the year. |

I just don't get why you would want to lie about your qualifications. Any employer that you feel the need to lie to isn't worth your time...if you actually have ' close to 75%' of an education degree.
You're potentially taking a job from a qualified candidate.
Just be straight up and honest. Again, if you do have a degree that's '75% education', explain that to the employer, there are plenty of jobs going in China, if your quals are true, you're the one who needs to be picky. |

Can we agree that having an undergrad Education degree as opposed to a different Liberal Arts degree is irrelevant?
To answer your question..aside from having white skin, my resume certainly doesn't stand out from anyone else's. |

It's not irrelevant, an BA Education is totally different to a BA History...BA Music...BA Philosophy.
The sort of jobs that require a BA Education state that for a reason, they want candidates with a BA in education.
If you have a degree, are a native speaker, 24 or older you will have no problem finding work in China. |

Well I have a job now that I enjoy so I won't be looking for work for awhile. It was more of just a basic inquiry.
And without some sort of in-classroom training, I don't think you'll learn a damn thing when it comes time to apply common sense in the classroom anyways |
