In 2012, my school formed a 22 student class of mostly elementary level students who have had a great trouble with English as the language of instruction, discipline, motivation, workload and the overall program. There are many problems that I have with this group today, but there isn’t such a stress, which I have to deal with, when I walk in this classroom.

Last year, a 30 student class has been formed by the powers, and they are most definitely incomparable to the group from the previous year. Not only their levels of English or capabilities to cope with the program, which is supposed to prepare them for the American higher education, are the problem, but also the intelligence of some in this class is a standing out issue.

How 6-7 teens can destroy the class is inconceivable. I am wondering whether it is humanely possible to teach such a grade 10 class; and, at the same time, I am feeling so sorry for the other 6-7 great ones who are influenced by the classroom dynamics there.

Since there is a lot of money and ambitious plans in this program, worries ought to fly high over everybody involved in. However, this does not seem to be the case, or at least it has not so far.

What do your programs for higher education abroad do to deal with diverse cognitive abilities of students?

I've worked in three western universities that accept some (few to some) Chinese students each year. Nothing is available to counter a low-end cognitive ability. If they fail, they fail - and ultimately go home without a degree.

Or maybe you were addressing other prep schools in China?

I don't think you can do much about cognitive ability Shocked

I am talking about high school kids.

My observation is that the 15-16 year olds are somewhat degenerated prior to this age.

Sending those kids abroad makes no sense and i'd go as far as to say that it damages the value of education either here or there.

Hard to imagine how some fine kids that sit next to such drones in classrooms are affected.

Instead of a reasonable group of 22 students, which I could've had, I have a troublesome 30 kids class that may end up unsuccessful as a whole.
