JEDDAH — The Ministry of Civil Service said the Eid Al-Adha holiday for government employees will start on Friday, Sept. 26. Abdulaziz Al-Khunain, the ministry’s spokesman, dismissed rumors that the holiday will start from Tuesday, Sept. 23, which is the National Day holiday.
According to Article 4 of the holiday regulations, when the National Day, which is celebrated on Sept. 23 every year, falls on a Tuesday and the Eid Al-Fitr or Eid Al-Adha holiday begins on a Thursday, Wednesday becomes a public holiday. Al-Khunain clarified that even though the National Day this year is on Tuesday, the Eid holiday does not begin on Thursday and therefore Wednesday, Sept. 24, will be a working day.

When is the holiday for universities and govt. offices over? I'm still working on my visa application. Yikes! |

Observance of the holiday is over a period of days and runs into the first week of October (based on moon phase). You can check the embassy's Website for the actual holiday closure dates. Anyway, expect your visa application processing to be delayed. |

Update: Eid Al Adha officially begins on October 4. KSA embassies and consulates will be closed from October 2-10. However, factor in the weekend of the host country to determine when business resumes. In the US, the SACM and Saudi Embassy will also close for Columbus Day, October 13. |
