Hello.

I am thinking of coming to Japan. I have been in China for some time and have a few questions about my potential move.

1/ Picking up girls in China is super easy. Yes I am white, but to be honest, I pick up girls pretty easy back in the UK to. Whats the scene like in Japan. I've been with some hot Japanese girls and many friends tell me there is lots more of the same waiting for me on the island. True?

2/ Tokyo is the obvious choice. Any better suggestions?

3/ I will be teaching. Any better suggestions?

Thank you

Sadly, your posts wreaks of pitiful stereotypes that plague many ESL teachers. Watch out for The Clap.

Firstly, what is 'The Clap'?
Secondly, explain to me what is 'plague-like' about my objectives and approach to life? There are many sad individuals who actually target asia because of their patent inability to attract members of the opposite sex in their native country. Perhaps yourself included?
ESl teaching is clearly a means to an end. That end is to spend an extended period of time in a different country, which might otherwise be impossible due to VISA restrictions. Lighten up. Who really wants to be a teacher?

Nice to see that a choice of occupations ranks last on your list of priorities. No offense, but reread your post. Don't be so innocent with the remarks about coming here for the women.

1. Some are easy. Some are not, but still willing. Some are scared to death of foreigners. Many of the younger ones have STDs.

2. Obvious why? Just because it has the largest population, perhaps. What do you want? Help us to help you.

3. What are you qualified for?

I usually don't post much here, but OP, your post has brought me out.

I am a professional teacher, and a woman. Your post accurately represents the gaijin stereotype that so many Japanese people hold. That stereotype makes it difficult for many teachers to be taken seriously here, and unfortunately many serious teachers are lumped into the same category with those of you wanting to come for a cooing trophy girlfriend.

Your attitude is also insulting to women (note; that's "women" not "girls.") Thankfully, many of the Japanese women I know have common sense and brains and would not come near men like you with a ten foot pole.

If you want to come and pick up women here, take a vacation to Japan, go out, have fun and then go home. If you don't have any interest in teaching, then please don't teach.

My God, give the guy a break.

Havent you noticed? Most people are teaching to live in Japan, not living in Japan to teach. And what the hell is wrong with a young guy being focused on how the women are? Who DIDNT consider it when they chose where to go? I know I did when I chose Japan over the Middle East.

1. Women here are great. If you do well in your home country then you will do even better here.

2. Tokyo, like any capital city attracts the most talent. The most money and the most gifted individuals. But this may not be a good thing for the would be teacher. Your 3000 yen an hour doesnt go as far as it would do elsewhere. The women are betting looking for sure, but then again so are the men and you will also be competing with gaijin with much better jobs and pay packets than yours. On the other hand if youre a big fish then Tokyo sure has a lot more small fish for you to feed on.

3. There are other opportunities especially in Tokyo, but you may find that without the Japanese or the qualifications, ie, many of the other jobs are in finance, you wont stand much of a chance in getting them. Again it probably comes down to whether youre a big fish who wants to swim with the big boys or like me, a smaller variety thats quite happy lurking around the smaller danker ponds where at the picking may be less enticing but at least there arent any sharks chasing after the same food.
Very Happy

A question for you:

Why leave Shanghai?

If chasing girls is really your favorite pasttime, and girls in China are super easy to pick up, then why Japan? Is it just for a change of pace? The better life you're talking about - does it have to do primarily with girls? If that's the case, do you want to come to Japan because you like Japanese girls more?
Or are you coming because the money you save in China doesn't exchange well with money back home?
If you're going to be out chasing girls all the time in Tokyo, you'll probably burn through your monthly salary quickly and you won't have much, if any money to send back home.
If you don't care about savings and just want to live it up, stay in China. The average teacher's salary (I'm thinking 4000 - 6000 RMB) has you living like a king there, doesn't it? Can't live so well on an average teacher's salary in Tokyo.

Thought I'd take your question seriously enough to give this response.

Good luck.

'The Clap' I believe is 'syphilis', aka as a sexually transmitted disease. STD.

Actually, "the clap" isn't syphillis. It's gonorrhoea.

Those are called "hostesses".

In China your income and passport will make up for your short comings, but that won't happen in Japan. You not going to be able to afford any of the stunners on a teachers salary in Tokyo, Have you seen the price for a Lois Vutton hand bag ??
