I somehow contracted TB while teaching in South East Asia about 11-12 years ago and subsequently went back to America for successful treatment. Is anyone aware (with first hand knowledge, not mere speculation, please) of a person ever having been allowed to work in Saudi Arabia after having had tuberculosis? Total recovery on my part, thank goodness, with letters from American TB specialist/medical doctors stating that there is no risk of my infecting anyone. I have since been teaching in other countries (including a one year stint as a US State Department senior English fellow in Eastern Europe). |

When I was a child, I was exposed to TB. I provided x-rays of my lungs that showed no effect from exposure. I started working and everything is okay. They conducted a skin test and of course, it came up positive, and they were surprised, even though the medical documentation said that I was exposed, indicating that any test would come up "positive." So now they want to put me on a course of medication for three months which will (now I'm confused) reduce my risk of another exposure but will not eradicate whatever effect the previous exposure had on my body. I was exposed about 31 years ago when I was a baby. This was in West Germany. I don't know what to think, but the final consultation before the medication period will be on the 24th, so I will let you know the outcome. I work at a Government run medical university, so far no problems. It hasn't effected my pay, etc. |
