|
|
Hello,
ME: American, BA in Education, CELTA, and 3 years of experience with adults.
From weak ties, I got a direct hire with DAU in Riyadh. My friend informed me that Americans with Master Degrees make in the area of 20,000 SAR/month and Bachelor Degrees make in the area of 16,000 SAR/month which include basic salary and housing allowance.
My offer came today and I am very disappointed, can I get some feedback and advise on how I should say 'give me more' correctly in KSA.
So:
12,000 SAR/month (Basic, transport, and housing)
45 days vacation
Sun-Thu 8am-5pm
Paid visa, flights, health care
No end bonus
No apartment
Thoughts?
I actually have a much better offer with another direct hire at a private high school, but was hoping for a big fat salary at a university... I feel like its kinda a joke...
Thanks in advance! |

They based that offer on your qualifications and verified experience, which frankly, are minimal considering their preference is for MA holders. You could certainly ask them why the offer is lukewarm and what would help beef it up. However, don't hold your breath for an increase unless you have some highly-desirable skill or area of expertise to negotiate with.
By the way, the housing allowance is in lieu of employer-provided accommodation.

I don't know what your definition of a "big fat" university salary is, but you'd need a related MA to earn a higher salary. That's not a joke---just reality. |

Are you sure the 12,000 doesn't include an apartment, or that there's no additional living allowance or transport allowance given?
The offer seems very low to me. You should be able to get more than this with one of those "dodgy" contractors! Oh, but wait, they wouldn't respect you as much as this direct hire would, who is offering peanuts.
Really, I think you should be able to do better with either a direct or indirect hire, although it's shocking how the lower salary range just keeps getting lower here. I suspect though, among other factors, it's owing to so many nonnative speakers with western passports who speak the language so poorly flooding the market. These applicants cannot realistically expect a higher salary. Oddly however, they are often the ones heading the many cutting edge language programs in Saudi universities in the end. |
