I was wondering if any one could shed some light on what a typical contract looks like. I am assuming they are a year, but only pay for 9-10 months, with a bonus at the end equivalent to a month, is that about right?

I'm sure there are different circumstances, so I would appreciate it if anyone could share current or past contract information.

There's no one-size-fits-all. Besides, most job ads state the basic conditions (for that employer) which will give an idea of the typical contract. Which particular employer are you looking at? Do you have a job offer at this point?

Every place is different, some are 1 year some are 2 years.

However MOST if not all places pay for 12 months of the year

Might be a middle-grade student who got an assignment from his teacher to do a book report on the ESL industry. This student has been asking all the correct, general questions that I would ask if I was 13 years old. Of course, that's just my opinion - I could be wrong. Razz

He does have a cool handle.

Yasuke,

I've read you threads all over the Middle East forums and I'm wondering if you've used the search function and read the hundreds of threads that are archived. Almost all of your questions have been discussed. This is not to say that questions aren't welcomed (I've been reading this forum for a while, but only recently joined and find it a useful resource), but it's not like most of your questions really differ from the norm. Outside of this forum, there are dozens of blogs and informational sites that give information.

As to your question, contracts differ depending on the employer and the level that you are teaching (elementary, high school, university, technical, military, et al). It's hard to say what a typical contract is because it differs based on the labor laws of the country in which you are working and the individual employer.

Are you currently looking to teach in the ME? Perhaps if you shed more light on what you are looking for our responses might be more specific...

Yasuke, tell us about yourself instead of posting endless trivial questions !
