I often see people on this board advise against using a recruiter, but being a person with a B.A., CELTA, and ten years experience in Asia, I think I need a recuriter to get a good starting job. Is there anyone here who has had a good experience with a recruiter?
I would appreciate if anyone who could relate their experience.
Thanks! |

Recruiter or contractor ? The contractor is the one who plays the role of the pimp. The recruiter is merely one who fixes you up, like a matchmaker. Contractors employ you and then hire your services out. |

There are also these related threads:
"Recruiter/Contracting Company?" (http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=106421).
"The skinny on direct-hire university opportunities" (http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=103722)
Recruiting agencies pretty much work for the umpteen Saudi contracting companies, which account for nearly all of the KSA teaching jobs posted on the Cafe's job board. It's not so much about getting a "good" entry-level job. The reason many job seekers go through a recruiter is because their academic qualifications are minimal (i.e., lack of a relevant MA + a couple of years of tertiary-level teaching experience), or they have the right quals but are past KSA's retirement age. In other words, they don't qualify for direct-hire positions. Anyway, it's key to find out which contracting company the recruiter is working for---the actual employer---and then do your research from there to know what you're getting into. |

Now that you've spent the past three weeks asking a rather meandering rash of generic questions, have you actually started looking and applying for positions in the Kingdom? Or have you realized there won't be any love connection for you and Saudi Arabia. |
