It all sounded good, but today I found out there will be 200 of them...
Chinese teachers actually, Junior and Middle school.
I don't want to spend the whole time lecturing...although I'll take the opportunity to talk about different learning and different teaching styles...e.g. recognising patterns of letters rather than just memorising words the way they memorise Chinese words...
I'll be trying to make some groups, but still...I want to give them plenty of practise time and keep them interested and happy - any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated.
I'm thinking about giving group assignments, they should be responsible enough to work as teams and carry out instructions...anybody got any starting-off ideas? Inspiration?
I'm a bit afraid they'll say it's all a waste of time because the students just have to focus on this or that exam and aren't interested in learning English as a means of communication...
What do you think the Chinese teachers should be doing more of that they aren't doing? |

`Speaking English.
Lie to them,
tell them about a teacher you know who uses English as the main language in her class & her students surpass All the other classes, even the upper grades. Make Your classroom their first taste of ENGLISH ONLY in class & the office
It isnt such a lie, Ive heard rumors about this strange technique actually happening, the kids in that class DO do Much better.
I like the part about teaching to read letters instead of whole words; sounding them out if they dont remember them. (e.g. recognising patterns of letters rather than just memorising words)
Tell them about your spelling the first day,
so they dont get caught up in secretly checking it for you, turn it into a game...
its as bad as mine is. I know because I write everything in Word before I post & I copied your red lined post to write this reply |

I would require them to talk about grammar - in ENGLISH! |
