Hi There!
So, I'm an old timer in China (relatively anyway) & have lived in Chengdu for 3 years. I originally came with a 1 year multientry tourist visa and have long since switched over to a student visa. Chengdu is a pretty chill place: salaries are fairly standard (6-8k a month without housing), housing and food price are low & it's super easy to get very good part time work.
Now, however, I'm turning 30 in a month and I'm starting to feel like I've settled. I'm bored and frustrated. The teaching situations and how schools treat me has started wearing on my fuse. Normally I'm very relaxed but since january I just feel like I'm always about to snap. So I thought a change of scene would be good, especially with some sea and sunlight. I have friends in Shenzhen & have been there several times on visa runs and spent about 2 months there with my friend for spring festival once so I have a decent idea of the area.
So I started applying to jobs and immediately got replies from several agents (including one called "sea dragon", does anyone know it?). They claimed that to work legally at a public school I would need to provide a TESOL/TEFL certificate as well as my degree copy. Is this a real requirement? I'm not keen to spend 3000RMB on this right now if I dont need to. I've never been asked for one in Chengdu and there is no place to get one here.
My visa is set to expire on July 15. originally I had planned to stay in Chengdu so I had the money to pay next terms classes saved but now I have decided to leave. on monday I have to go see if it will be possible for me to extend my visa for another month and find out if I need a student release form. I was considering whether I should use that money to join a Uni in shenzhen and get another student visa. In Chengdu I can work up to 20 hours on a student visa legally. Can i do that in Shenzhen?
Thanks. |

search site for info.
new student visa allows internship. legally, u can't teach on student visa. many tutor. illegal at any country. most countries care nothing that foreign students tutor for cash. can be a risk in china if ur reported. some chinese and apologist very hate foreigners...
pocket cash: edit papers, tutor student? no prob. no salary. no stable work.
illegal employee at school/company? high stakes and danger. |
