Hello all,
I have yet another question about living in Vietnam. I like to take walks, and hike, and generally spend time in the outdoors when I have free time. If one lives in cities like Saigon, and Hanoi, which I understand are the best places to actually make a living, how hard is it to find or get to a good walk in the woods, or any kind of quiet outdoor experience.

Also how safe is it for a woman to move around in Vietnam solo? City or country?

All the best,

Robin

Woods? I've noticed that youth groups go to camp in some of the parks in HCMC (for lack of a better place nearby?). The parks are typically a square block or 2 and have trees, paths and 3.5 people per square meter. There's a national park not far from Dalat....a few hours away. My bed is made of wood.

My bed is made of wood as well, maybe I should bring it with me.

Cheers

It basically takes an hour just to get out of Saigon and its outlying areas to get anywhere close to where you could camp and really experience the woods. Dalat is nice for camping though.

It is a very safe place for women to travel solo. I have never felt unsafe here. There is petty crime though so you have to watch your bag, but I don't sense any major crime. You should be careful of your drinks at bars too though, as I've heard some stories about that. People are friendly here, and I met a lot of solo women travelers when I was traveling through the country.

Thanks for the info 'hanisay' Can hardly wait to explore the territory. Look at the site Micro suggested . Now that looks like fun.
Also check out the board at http://www.mekongesl.com/ if you haven't already. It's really great.

Cheers
