I just arrived in Taiwan about two weeks ago and am trying to decided where to live.

So far I've visited Taipei and Taichung. Both seem like pretty good options, however I think Taichung may be better to live (for me to live anyway.) It seems cleaner, brighter and less busy than Taipei

I've also heard that living in the south is a good option (like Kiaoshung) for a relaxed life style. It sounds like teaching jobs are easier to get there and are less competitive as well. I'm a little concern about the crime in the south though...

Does anyone have any opinions about the "best" place to in Taiwan? Or perhaps which places to avoid living would be a better question.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi how ya doing?

The best place to live in Taiwan obviously depends on your preference. I have lived in both, but the majority of my family live in Taipei. Taipei is a very americanized place to live and has easier access to things versus Kaoshiung or Taichung. The benefit is that it is more lively and more things to do. The down side is that it isn't as relaxed or laid back, everything is pretty fast pace.
Taichung is great as well, cuz you get a combination of the city life as well as the quiet life pending on where you stay, but overall, it's more of a smaller region, where the stereotype is that it is more of a conservative area in a good way though. Conservative, but not ignorant to the world around them.
Kaoshiung isn't too bad either, but you are very far away obviuosly from Taipei. It definitely is more like their version of the suburbs. Generally, from my experience which people might hate me for saying this, Taiwanese from the South generally are much more strict and traditional.
well i hope this helps.
