I need to get my passport renewed. It expires next April. I am wondering if my noble FAO reps will have some issues getting the resident permit switched to the new passport. I have heard that there is now some criminal record check required but I was told before that I did not need to do it. Am wondering though if that has changed since I last renewed my resident permit. What is the easiest way to get one if I am in China? |

If your school told you that you don't need a CBC, you may not need one. Some folks merely need to sign an affidavit saying that they have no criminal record. |

What is the rush? You have about 9 months left on your passport.
RPs are not "switched" to another passport. You get a new passport and use both the old and new passports until you get a new RP or visa in the new passport.
Ask your school/FAO whether you need a criminal record check.
A CRC might only be needed from China or your home country...or both.
The easiest way to get one for China while in China? Or for your home country while in China? For China depends where you live. For home country -UK?- try yahooing (google has not worked for me all day); the UK's CRC information (Disclosure and Barring Service) is all online and very easy to find. |

OP if you are talking about a new academic year contract and renewing your Residence Permit (a new sticker in your passport) then yes, you need a new passport that will not expire before the end of the contract. I obtained a new passport in China for the same reason in 2011 and the PSB put the new Residence Permit sticker in the new passport without any problem. Just give them both passports for this, and then carry both until you have the new RP AND entry stamps in the new passport. |
