Applying for a z visa with a SZ training centre.
They say I'll have to have an interview with the FEB when I get there...
Never happened when I worked in Guangxi....
Has any one else had this happen?
What should I expect? |

I do not know, but it brought to mind that when I first taught in China, many years ago in one of the middle provinces, I had to have a conversation with an officer from the PSB. That is what I thought at the time but if staff at the FEB wear dark blue uniforms it could have been there. I have not thought about this since it happened so it is all very vague in my mind. I do not recall anything unpleasant happening though, just a brief conversation in English.
Maybe the FEB has concerns about your level of English or your qualifications and want to hear what you reply and how you reply? If that is the reason and you are what you appear to be you should not have a problem. |

I had a meeting with the PSB or FEC people a few years ago. It was a group meeting, that is, several FTs in a group. We filled out some general info forms and had a short interview with a policeman. It seemed routine.
Perhaps a good time to dress well, don't get drunk the night before, and if you're proselytising, don't try to convert the policemen.
Expect intense stares from a policeman or two. They're sizing you up. Don't sweat it. It may be inconvenient and inefficient, but they're trying to avoid pedos and other bad folks, and you cannot fault them for that. |

Oh, I remembered about another meeting with a PSB officer that new teachers had to go to at a different school. It was kind of an orientation or introduction to life in China for foreigners and how to avoid problems. Stuff like visas and RPs, banks, travelling, personal safety were discussed. One of the FTs had been in China for a number of years and asked the officer how he was expected to cross the street as when the light was red for him he waited and when it was green drivers would not let him cross. The officer briefly laughed then talked about something else. The FAO did not look pleased. |
