Hi

Is there much demand for IELTS examiners in UAE or the Gulf generally ? I am thinking of doing the examiner training and ideally would like to be sent out to the Gulf for short periods to conduct exams.
Any informed insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would imagine that there are sufficient examiners for IELTS based in the UAE and Gulf countries.

Certainly when I was in the UAE, Kuwait, Oman and the UAE there were more examiners than work!

I cannot imagine UCLES flying anybody anywhere these days just for a day's exams.

If you do an Internet search on ielts examiner uae, there should be an active LinkedIn thread on the subject along with other links.

I agree with Dedicated; I suspect there are already enough examiners employed in dedicated (no pun intended) testing centers in the UAE, Qatar, etc.

Examiners sometimes fly within the GCC to conduct exams in the region, particularly at peak times such as June/July/August.

Rates have been flat for a few years but hey ho, it pays the bills.

It is unlikely you'll be offered flights from outside the region to conduct tests.

The British Council and IDP have their pools of examiners who are in country and with visa. Sometimes there might be a trip within the GCC to do examining during the crunch season, usually summer. Many examiners are on vacation and students are scrambling for an IELTS score for the fall.

there are enough based locally. I did it for a while based in Dhahran. Also did Bahrain and once went to Jeddah for a daytrip. From that I was reminded that the British Council should not be entrusted with organising a glass of beer in a brewery.
