I'm considering coming to Thailand to teach.
-US citizen
-BA degree (not sure if I need original transcripts; I have scans on my computer)
-3 years recent experience teaching at a Korean public elementary school
-online TEFL certificate (from ITTT)
I don't want to spend money on a CELTA, especially since Thailand doesn't pay much. Do I need one, or another "in person"/"on site" TEFL to get a job in Thailand? I'd like to make 35,000 baht. Is that possible? |

Yes you can find a job teaching English in the Land of Smiles.....but salaries on offer are not much to smile about. Good luck! |

Yes, you can find a job.
You need your original degree. It does NOT need to be apostilled.
You may need an original set of your transcripts. You will need them to change your status in BKK. You probably don't need originals if you get your non-b from a consulate outside of Thailand. They do NOT need authentication (apostille).
A TEFL cert is NOT a legal requirement for employment.
Most employers won't care if you have experience elsewhere in Asia.
The worst time to be looking for work is from Dec. to Feb.

You can earn more money part time teaching English than full time in the Land of Smiles...I usually get Baht 1000 - Baht 1,500 per hour teaching privates and in company staff. Problem is the Thai visa situation which now turns a lot of would be teachers away from comng here...it also seems they do not really welcome EFL teachers here anymore with the lousy full time pay offered at most Thai public schools. Good luck! |

Thank you, suphanburi and EFL Educator, for the information. Especially all of the extra info about apostilles (I was wondering about that). |
