Hello all,
I live in Taiwan and would like to stay here. However, I would like to find work in an online English-teaching company based in Japan. Can anybody name me a few good online schools/companies to apply for that are based in Japan? This can be the school name, or even better, the websites.
Thank you.

Sorry, I can't think of any. The ones I ave seen, are done by Filipinos. So, I doubt they pay that well. |

Westgate have some online teaching,. It very much depends how you define 'good' though. Also, they definitely prioritise people who live in Japan. |

The Filipino ones are popular with those who want conversational English. My advice is to work for an organisation that provides more high stakes classes like TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS or business English as it is common for the Japanese to seek native speakers of English for these type of classes.
There are also a lot that operate as brokers. This is where they recruit a heap of students and teachers, but it is up to the teachers to nominate when they are free, the type of classes they offer, and how much they charge. The 'school' then takes a cut. The main problem with these set ups is that you need to offer a free trial lesson (which some students take advantage of) and the teachers end up undercutting each other lesson fee wise) in an attempt to lure more students. |

After looking at Westgate's online component, it does not appear to be very competitive in terms of time commitment and pay. It's not very easy to tell from the description either, but the required duties would appear to take quite a bit more time than allotted. |

I did Westgate's online program several years ago. It's not awesome money by any means but if you are looking to make some more dough then it can add up. I had to talk to each university student for about 20 minutes, then spend about 10 minutes updating a spreadsheet about how the they did. They recommended that people do the spreadsheet right after talking to the students so that they didn't forget. |
