KAU staff to undergo performance evaluations

JEDDAH--Staff and faculty members at King Abdulaziz University (KAU) will soon be subjected to confidential evaluations drafted by high-ranking officials, including deans and directors at the university. Staff found to be in violation of rules and regulations will be transferred to work at government entities outside Jeddah, authorities warned. The university had organized the transfer process of various government sector employees to the university through a transfer list issued by the Civil Service and has placed extra regulatory conditions to attract a distinctive and qualified cadre through mutual transfer.

Abdullah Mahraji, secretary general of KAU, stressed the importance of filing performance reports. These reports should include personal data, attendance, a record of warning letters, the number of times employees have previously been investigated, whether or not deductions had previously been made from their salaries due to negligence, criminal history and credentials. Reports should also include the total number of days staff reported for duty, assessments on whether they carried out tasks effectively and whether they have knowledge of the English language and computer skills.

Mahraji said there are six core factors for transferring employees. These include frequent absconding, non-commitment to official working hours, non-implementation of delegated tasks and responsibilities, weak productivity, overstaffing in the public sector, bad professional ethics and bad relations with superiors and colleagues. The reports will be referred to a committee for overseeing employment at the university, which will decide to which establishment employees will be relocated.

AL Kah Lah !

Though my transliteration needs improvement, my first year students enjoyed teaching me that one. I never met a bilingual Arab who could fully explain the idiom of it. It's an imperative to defecate far away in the desert-- away from the civilized fold. Pretty much fightin' words among the teenagers.

Now, let's go HaajWaalin'...what's the proper km/hr? 88?

KAU has no standards at all. Even if the evals take place, the results will take years to be put into place.
