My first FAO was a sweetheart. We got gifts at Christmas and during the holidays. We got to take our birthdays off because she was also the directress of the school.

She took us on city celebrations and asked local officials to take THREE of us FTs on trips around the province.

She was an absolute princess. She was also a high-ranking party member. She loved to show what she could do. One year, She took us to a Party Christmas celebration. We shared our table with TV celebrities. She got us work during the summer in addition to paying us our regular salary during the summer, even though summer pay was not in the contract.

No other FAO or boss compared to her.

My first FAO was ok. He didn't really do a lot but he also didn't get in our way.

Second FAO attempted to cheat me out of a bit of money but in the end we sorted it out.

Third FAO, excellent and usually well on top of things. No complaints.

My first, and only, FAO was great.

A straight up honest guy. I went with that job, even though it was out in the sticks and low pay because the current FTs said the best things about the employer.

Never any problem with money, schedules, or things like that.

I can't say any of my Uni FAOs were sweethearts and a couple were learning on the job but all (six people at 4 unis) got my paperwork squared away and paid me on time. Least friendly was the first but she did her job.

Edited to add I did have one assistant department head that loved excursions and often invited FTs along to real parks, hot springs and other places. No hidden agendas, just a nice woman.

There was a dean of the FL department that celebrated Women's Day with a trip to a strawberry farm where the faculty picked strawberries. Apparently, the strawberry is a female symbol. I think the dean was an Ingmar Bergman fan!

1st- Weirdo- open secret amongst the FT's that he probably had illegitimate children all over China! Was also caught in an FT's bed when they came home from holiday one year...
2nd- Wonderful. Very friendly young guy, worked 3 positions at the university AND finishing his MA, trying to maintain a relationship with his now wife and still managed to get himself along to some of the parties we invited him to!
3nd- Was fine all year, until he cheated me out of a month's salary right at the end (maybe the same, Alien Abductee??)
4th- A right royal bitch. Tried to corner me into leaving halfway through the year, I saw right through her! Trouble from day 1, mainly about the apartment.
5-6th- Fine, nothing special about these 2.
Now- Lovely, get along well with both (we have 2). They even have to deal with ALL types at the current school, if you know what I mean! Will often have a joke & chat with them, and occasionally have lunch at school with them.

Browneye Bob,

You're off-topic.

Hypocrite - why not use PM or "Report"? Your post had nothing to do with being on-topic. Tremendous.

Actually if you read the links, they are related to this post if in fact the OP is a part or full time recruiter as quite a few expats are these days. As the links say they often defend and promote and "praise" one another on forums just like Dave's. I haven't met Bud - have you? How do you know what he does for a living? I am not paranoid here - I am playing devil's advocate. The point is we don't know how many agents pose as teachers on this forum and others.

Proof that "quite a few expats are recruiters 'these days'"?
