|

Despite my googling efforts, I cannot find an updated answer on this.
A recruiter just informed me that I must have degree in Education/TESOL in order to work as an ESL Instructor in KSA. Is this true?
Do they take it case by case? I have 6 years experience teaching ESL and a CELTA degree. Is it impossible??
Thanks in advance! |

Without trying to sound like I'm being a dick about this, you should never listen to anything a recruiter tells you. One can have a degree in English and in "related areas" - even if you're from Canada coming over to work in KSA as an ESL instructor. If you were going to get a job at a high school in KSA teaching language arts (English as a first language), I could see the recruiter telling you this. I have several friends from the Great White North working in KSA, including one that is coming over next month and is getting her visa processed as I write this. I have also been told by them that the rift between the kingdom and Canada has lessened to the extent that it is taking around 10 days to get one's visa processed.

That's the response from just one recruiter. It may be that the employer he/she recruits for has certain oddball requirements solely for Canadians, but it's likely not the case for all teaching positions. Keep applying. |

Great news! Yeah, this is the only job I have seen that required an English degree and the only recruiter to tell me so. Perhaps it was just that particular job.
Thanks! |

A large percentage of tefl teachers that I've met would not be able to provide one of those Scot. |
